Dr Gillian Boland has a special interest in Dermatology in General Practice. She holds a diploma in Practical Dermatology from the University of Cardiff (2006) and subsequently acted as an online tutor in dermatology for the University. She is proficient in the diagnoses and treatment of skin conditions such as:
- Childhood eczema.
- Adult eczema and dermatitis.
- Acne
- Warts /Veruccae ( Cryotherapy available on site and covered by Health Insurance in most cases)
- Psoriasis
- Bacterial and fungal skin infections.
- Benign, pre malignant and malignant skin lesions (with the use of dermoscopy)*
Examination of Moles and Dermoscopy.
Dr Boland has advanced training in assessment of moles and malignant melanoma having completed a dermoscopy course in Cardiff Univeristy.
This enables her to diagnose skin cancer and other skin lesions at a very early stage. The vast majority of moles are benign. Using dermosoopy in addtion to clinical examination , Dr Boland can confidently give reassurance to patients who attend with concerns over benign lesions. If a lesion is immediately suspicious, Dr Boland will refer the patient to a Consultant Dermatologist for an urgent opinion. She can also biopsy lesions for histological diagnosis. Every mole and skin lesion on your entire body can be examined using a Dermatascope. This is a device with polarized and non-polarized light and a magnifying glass that allows viewing of intricate structures. This image can then be photographed and attached to the patient record for future comparison.
Wound Repair
We are fully equipped to repair skin cuts and lacerations. We use both “stitching” and painless tissue glue, which is especially useful for children. All our instruments are single use disposable. Wound repair is usually covered under private health insurance.
